THE ULASSAI CANYON
The Canyon is a new sector just
above the town of Ulassai, probably
the town with the greatest number
of walls in Sardinia. The wall was
discovered by Simone Sarti and Vlady
Selis, who began to bolt it in November
2002.
The last 7 routes have been bolted
by Maurizio Oviglia. All the routes
have been sponsored by the Ulassai
Pro Loco, in a farsighted project
meant to exploit their beautiful
walls.
The Canyon is an ideal sector in
the summer, with an incredible (for
Sardinia) grassy glade with pines
at the foot of the first routes!
Climbs are very nice, the style
is half way between Jerzu and Osini
(just like Ulassai from a geographic
point of view).
There are beautiful cracks, but
also classical walls which somehow
recall Jerzu. The equippers wish
to thank Tonino, from Hotel Su Marmuri,
for his gentle hospitality.
Remember that Tonino has special
rates for climbers (tel. 0782-79003-79665)
and offers excellent dinners based
on local animals cooked on the fire...not
ideal for vegetarians!
Access: park near
the Church and locate the Canyon,
just above. Take a small, winding
road, then leave it (green signs)
and follow a short track until you
reach the enatrance to the Canyon
(5 minutes)
